      <image:title>Our Team - Sarah Burkhardt</image:title>
<image:caption>Sarah Burkhardt was born and raised in the Chicagoland area and has always been passionate about storytelling, community service, and meaningful connection. She graduated from Illinois State University in December 2024 with a degree in English and Journalism—fields that have allowed her to explore the power of words and the emotional depth they can bring to life. She currently serves as the Synergy Connects Supervisor at Synergy HomeCare, where she has the privilege of supporting individuals and families through compassionate care and thoughtful coordination. Her role reflects her deep commitment to empathy, service, and human connection. Outside of her professional work, Sarah recently became a volunteer with Faith in Action, an organization close to her heart. She strongly believes in showing up for others and lending a helping hand wherever it is needed. Sarah’s passion for writing has also become a meaningful avenue for healing. After losing her uncle in a motorcycle accident and living with her grandparents during a deeply formative time, she experienced grief not just as a personal journey, but as something layered and communal. Witnessing how different people process loss gave her a deeper understanding of its complexity—and of the resilience that can emerge in its wake. She has shared these reflections through public readings of her original work, aiming to raise awareness about the many dimensions of grief and the importance of healing in community. Whether through words or actions, Sarah’s mission is simple: to bring light, support, and connection to those who need it most</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Team - Megan Patterson</image:title>
<image:caption>Megan is not a Bloomington-Normal resident by birth, but she is a Bloomington-Normal resident by choice. Growing up surrounded by extraordinary women (mainly her four older sisters and amazing mom), Megan has always been determined to fit in with her flock. In 2015, she graduated from Western Illinois University with Summa Cum Laude Academic Distinction with a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration. Part of her program required an internship, so she chose to intern at a local juvenile detention facility. This experience ignited Megan’s passion for social justice, which led to her returning to school for her graduate degree. Megan chose Illinois State University and completed her master’s degree in Criminal Justice Sciences in 2022. Her thesis research focused on safety and care of children inside of juvenile detention facilities, something she continues to bring attention to any chance she can get. She plans to continue her education at Illinois State in the Fall of 2024 for a Ph.D. in Leadership, Equity, and Inquiry. Professionally, Megan serves as the Internship Connections Coordinator for Career Services at Illinois State University. Her love for education and social justice are beautifully mixed in this role as she works to create paid professional opportunities for Illinois State students. She also has the genuine pleasure of teaching Interdisciplinary Studies at Illinois State, which is a course that helps first-year college students transition and succeed in college and in life. When she is not working or studying, Megan enjoys reading, doing yardwork, snuggling with her pets, and taking her 100-pound reactive pit-bull on walks while listening to podcasts. She is physically very active and has trained as a powerlifter, weightlifter, CrossFit athlete, and professional wrestler. She has also earned a brown belt in combative mixed martial arts. More than anything, Megan loves spending time with her beautiful partner, Kalyn, and their two determined, intelligent, and kind children, Cadey and Cooper.</image:caption>

<image:caption>MISSION: To recognize the immense potential women have to take their ordinary lived experiences and create extraordinary legacies. VISION: To bring women together in celebration and in sisterhood through sharing stories, providing mentorship, and creating space for collective inspiration. VALUES: celebration, community, giving back, mentorship, resilience The ExtraOrdinary Women Project (EOW) recognizes the immense potential women have to take their ordinary lived experiences and create extraordinary legacies. In that spirit, we bring women together in celebration and sisterood through sharing stories, providing mentorship, and creating space for collective inspiration. Who inspires you? Ordinary women do extraordinary things. Simply fill out this nomination form to help celebrate a woman who inspires you. Through sharing our stories, we better appreciate, understand and celebrate one another. Those who are chosen will be interviewed and a photo or likeness will be shared with their approval. Self-nominations are also accepted. (Nomination forms may also be printed and mailed to PO Box 923, Bloomington, IL 61702-0923.) Nomination Criteria Nominees must reside in McLean County, identify as women, and be over the age of 18 at the time of the nomination. Nominees must exhibit resilience and sustained strength along their life journey in the face of challenges. Nominees generally inspire others around them without public recognition or outward leadership roles. They give back to our community. Selection Process The EOW celebrates women who demonstrate strength and persistence and who live extraordinary lives. The EOW Team will select featured honorees from the nominee pool each quarter and highlight their stories on the EOW website, social media and through our media partnerships. Stories shared will be a collaborative process between the honorees and the members of EOW. The purpose is to inspire others and celebrate our honorees. — EOW Board of Directors</image:caption>
